After beating a hasty retreat from Arizona State University, I worked in advertising and commercial design as an illustrator, designer and art director. Actually the parting of our ways from ASU was kind of mutual, I was an uninterested student at best and, during a summer hiatus in Chicago living with my uncle, I started getting freelance gigs around town. So, I figured I could pay the university to prepare me to do what I was already doing, or, I could get paid to learn on the job. Not exactly the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make.
A lot of this work is obviously influenced by the computer generated video and design jobs I was starting to get. It also mirrors a lot of the design and illustration aesthetic that was prevalent in the alcohol and drug fueled environment of the ad biz of the 80s and 90s.
